Quest - Social Studies Reflection

In term two I conducted a Social Inquiry on Migration. My Social inquiry focussed on the movement of migrant from France to New Zealand.

The Push reason why French people left their country of origin was because the french were in search for gold and gold mines, they also came to New Zealand for jobs and work such as working in the mines.
Another Push  reason why they left was to be assisted immigrants and for work.

The Pull reasons why they were attracted to NZ was because they thought it was uninhabited so they came for gold and mining.
Another Pull reason is that the french people might of felt more safe and wanted to stay in New Zealand.

Some of the obstacles  they faced while living in NZ were the language and finding enough work for themselves.

My personal perspective of the migrants coming to New Zealand i think is good because France people are looking for jobs and need work. New Zealand is also better than France so that is another main reason

Quest - Reflection on Year 9 Camp

2017 Year 9 camp was a time to remember. All the year 9's learnt about building confidence with each other and being comfortable with the people we are around, at the year 9 camp we learnt about teamwork and working as teams. The year 9 camp was for all of us to work together in different activities and different obstacles we had to overcome. 1 thing I liked about camp was that we were all working together with barely noticing that we were, all of the year 9's were enjoying and enjoyed the camp altogether.

Quest - Social studies Year 9 mid term exam reflections


For the year 9 mid term exams I think that it was a good experience knowing how Tamaki College does their exams. During the exams I felt calm because everyone was doing their work and we were all quiet. After the exams I felt relieved and I felt pretty confident in myself because during the exam it was quiet and I was able to work. After the exams I was expecting alright results not the best and not the worst.

This is an Iphone 5, the reason i chose this is because on Christmas i got given my first phone, the reason my parents gave me a phone is because og the values inside of this phone. That is the reason I chose a phone as my structure for my values.

Quest - Fonofale

Fonofale

  1. The Fonofale is very similar to the Hauora walls that is in a base model of a house, Fonofale has a base that is Family, with 4 foundations mental, spiritual physical and others which can be a variety of things. Culture is the roof and surrounding it is time, environment and context.

    2. The fonofale has a roof and base with a foundation and outside barriers, almost like Hauora but very different.

    3. The Fonofale is similar to the 4 walls, instead of those it’s a base with 4 foundations a roof and outside barriers that are useful. Fonofale is what most P.I’s would rather believe in terms of family and culture.

     4. If I had to choose between Hauora or Fonofale, I would choose the Fonofale mostly because family is a very important thing to me and culture as well. Fonofale is also what P.I’s would choose mostly because of it’s origins and it’s importance to us.

  4. Being angry affects my emotional/mental dimension because I don’t like smack talkers during a basketball game or even class - Emotional/mental.

Oscar and Nate were determined to find out where Islanders/Polynesians and Maori’s originally came from. They took a DNA test to know which country’s to go to and to find out where and how the Polynesian people got to Aotearoa. The start of their journey began at Aotearoa at a Marae near Mahi where Polynesians arrived first.

In Rarotonga they visited the monumental garden where the chiefs of the Cook Island were before they went to Aotearoa. They went to the MAKEA church and saw all the artwork along the walls that were very similar to Maori art work, meanwhile Nate wanted to find out where the Chiefs left from before they arrived to Aotearoa. He found out that they left for Aotearoa on their canoes from Takitimu and Kurahaupo. The Cook islands and Aotearoa have very similar language and artwork.

Oscar went to Samoa because that is where he is from and where his dad was buried.
He went to visit his mum to see if she knew where Samoans came from, Oscar then got an envelope that showed his ancestors. It showed a generation that goes back 12,000 years ago.

Lapita people 1st settlers who came to Vanuatu. Pottery found in Vanuatu called Capita Pottery was over 3,000 years old was also found in Samoa and Tonga, Pottery had designs motifs on them but also found in Polynesian tattoos and on Tapa.

Scientist trace Polynesians from NZ to Taiwan. Polynesians and people from Taiwan have very similar features like their language, tattoo designs, carving and culture.
